In recent years, artificial intelligence has been undoubtedly gaining in popularity. Its growth is so incredible that many people are both fascinated and a little scared of it. It has become a subject of many movies and series, such as Black Mirror, which shows a rather dark vision of technology development.

1. Robotic Bees

Let's stay on the subject of the Black Mirror series. Have you watched an episode with robotic bees, created by British scientists to make up for the worryingly decreasing bee population? This is not just an idea of the producers of the series. The world of science has been working on this issue for a long time. Researchers from Harvard University are very aware of this fact. Therefore, they created a machine called RoboBee. The tiny drone that weighs only 60 mg can not only fly but also land on water and swim.

The RoboBee project aims to create a fully autonomous robotic bees colony, which can be used not only for artificial pollination of plants but also for rescue missions by helping to search for missing persons.

2. An algorithm that grades tuna freshness

Asian countries, including Japan, are known for the best fish and all other types of seafood in the world. Kazuhiro Shimura decided to help restaurants serve the highest quality fish dishes. He created a mobile application based on artificial intelligence called Tuna Scope. The app determines the taste of a particular tuna based on its tail. Its author claims that "all the secrets to a tuna’s flavour are hidden in the tail". The algorithms analyse its colour, gloss, firmness, consistency and even its layering of fat, which helps to verify what is the quality of the product.

The authors of the application decided to check its accuracy. According to their data, 90% of the application results were consistent with the assessment of people who have been testing the quality of fish for years.

3. Writing songs

Have you ever heard the song "Not Easy" by Ambassadors, Elle King and Wiz Khalifa? This single was fourth on the Hot Tracks list in iTunes and was created using... artificial intelligence algorithms. The software searched a lot of conversations, articles and other resources on the web, looking for inspiration for the main theme of the song – a broken heart. Then, machine learning algorithms found musical elements that provided inspirations for the sound of the song.

Although in this case, the computer only helped the authors to create the song, it is possible that soon the music entirely created by AI will be a number 1 in the charts.

4. Beer brewed by Artificial Intelligence

Another item on our list of unique uses of artificial intelligence is IntelligentXa beer brewing robot, tailored to individual preferences and tastes of every human. The machine-learning algorithm uses customer feedback, which is provided via the Facebook Messenger bot. Based on this data, the robot is able to create a beer perfectly suited to their preferences.

5. The robot officers

Will the robots be able to replace the police in future? Dubai is on the right path of finding it out. In the United Arab Emirates, the robot-officers effectively support the police in their duties. Residents can report crimes, file applications and pay fines for traffic violations to the mechanised police officers.

However, it is only the first step in modernising the police. According to BBC, the government said the aim was for 25% of the force to be robotic by 2030, but they would not replace humans. Until then, they are planning to modernise their machines so that they can work as real (human) police officers.
